WEEK 31 - The Feminine Rebrand
By Jennifer Dirksen · Sheer Photography, Youngstown OH · Est. read time: 6 min
Confidence isn't something that arrives when the conditions are right. It's something you decide… today, in this body, in this life, exactly as it is!!!
I want to ask you something before we get into this.
How long have you been waiting?
Not for anything specific necessarily. Just... waiting. For the weight to come off. For the kids to get a little older. For the finances to even out. For your husband to notice. For life to slow down enough that you finally feel like you have permission to take up space in it.
If you're honest (really honest) the answer is probably years.
And here's what those years have looked like: you showed up for everything and everyone. You kept the plates spinning. You managed the chaos and held the family together and did your job and showed up as a good friend and a good partner and a good mom. You did all of it.
And somewhere in the middle of all of that, you quietly put yourself on hold.
When things settle down. When I feel ready. When I've earned it.
But things don't settle down. Ready doesn't come before the action. And honestly, don’t you think you’ve already earned it?!?!
The waiting is over. Not because the conditions finally got perfect. Because you're done letting the conditions decide for you.
"Sexy isn't a destination you arrive at when everything lines up. It's a decision you make (right now, in this body, in this life) to stop waiting and start choosing."
Confidence follows action. Not the other way around.
Let's talk about the biggest lie in the confidence conversation: that you have to FEEL it first.
You don't feel confident and then wear the dress. You wear the dress (heart pounding, slightly terrified, absolutely certain everyone is staring) and confidence catches up. That’s how it works… Every. Single. Time, babe!!!
You don't feel sexy and then take the photo. You take the photo and realize you look nothing like the story your brain has been telling you! You don't feel bold and then speak up. You speak up, voice shaking, and discover that the world didn't end!
Confidence is not a feeling that precedes action. It's a feeling that action creates. And the women who seem to have it effortlessly aren't women who feel it before they do things. They're women who stopped waiting for the feeling and started doing the things anyway.
That's available to you. Right now… Today! Not after you lose the weight. Not when your skin clears. Not when your kids are older or your bank account is bigger or someone finally tells you that you're allowed. TODAY BABE!!!
Sexy is a decision you make a hundred times a day.
Here's what nobody tells you about feeling sexy: it's not a state you arrive at and then maintain. It's a series of small, daily, completely ordinary decisions that either move you toward yourself or away from yourself. It ebbs and flows.
It's in how you stand when you walk into a room. Whether you pull your shoulders back or curl inward hoping nobody notices you came in. It's in how you speak… whether you qualify everything you say or you say it clearly and let it land. It's in how you receive a compliment… whether you deflect it immediately or you look someone in the eye and say thank you and mean it.
It's in whether you put on the earrings or skip them because nobody's going to see them anyway. Whether you dance while you're cooking or stand still because nobody's watching and it feels stupid. Whether you flirt with your husband on a Tuesday or save that version of yourself for special occasions that never seem to come.
It's in whether you stop apologizing for taking up space. For wanting things. For being a woman with desires and opinions and a body that deserves to be dressed like it matters.
Every one of those moments is a choice. And every time you choose toward yourself (even in the smallest, most unremarkable way) you build something. Evidence. Proof. A body of work that says: I am someone who shows up for herself!
That's what sexy actually is. Not a look. An identity.
"Sexy isn't how you look. It's what you've decided about yourself and whether you're willing to act like it's true."
The tiny choices that create everything.
I want to give you something concrete because this blog isn't meant to be something you read and feel good about and then forget by Thursday.
These are the choices. The small, daily, completely doable ones that compound into a completely different relationship with yourself:
Wear the earrings. Not for anyone. Just because they make you feel like her.
Take the picture. Stop waiting for the angle, the lighting, the day when you look the way you think you should look. Take it now. In this face. In this body.
Flirt with your partner. Not because the relationship needs it. Because you need the reminder that that part of you is still there.
Buy yourself flowers. For no reason. For a random Wednesday. Because you live in your home too and you deserve beautiful things in it.
Dance while you're cooking. Alone. Badly. Without caring.
Stop apologizing before you speak. Stop softening the thing you mean. Say it. Clearly. Without the three sentence disclaimer attached.
Choose one of these today. Just one. And then do it again tomorrow. And the day after. And watch what happens to how you feel in your own skin when you stop waiting for permission and start acting like someone who doesn't need it.
A letter to the woman you've become this month.
We started August with a question: what if this season (this particular turn of the calendar) was your fresh start too?
We talked about the feminine rebrand. About building your signature energy. About being allowed to want more. And now here, at the end of it, I want to ask you something:
Who have you become in the last four weeks?
Sit with that. Really sit with it.
Because I don't think the answer is someone completely different. I don't think you discovered a stranger. I think what you found (or started to find, or caught a glimpse of) is the woman who was already there. Quietly. Patiently. Buried under the expectations and the routines and the years of putting herself last and calling it love.
She was always there. She just needed someone to stop waiting on her behalf.
What choosing it looks like at Sheer.
A boudoir session is the most literal version of everything I've written this month.
It's choosing. Out loud. With your time and your energy and your willingness to be seen. It's saying: I want to feel this. Not someday. Now. It's walking into a studio nervous and uncertain and maybe a little terrified… and walking out with photographic evidence of the woman you chose to be for one afternoon.
And here's what I know after doing this for over a decade: that choice echoes. It doesn't stay in the studio. It doesn't live only in the photos. It follows you into the Tuesday morning drop-off and the Wednesday meeting and the Friday night when you put on the earrings for no reason and your partner looks at you differently and you realize… that wasn't them. That was you. Carrying yourself differently because you finally decided to.
This is your new era. Not Monday. Not January. Not after vacation or after the weight loss or after any other condition you've been waiting on. Now!!!
You've been waiting long enough. 🖤
The investment is smaller than another year of waiting.
